Become An NDIS Provider QLD
The NDIS enables people with a significant disability to live their life as fully and enjoyably as possible. It does this by providing the funding that is necessary to access the services and support they need. Each NDIS participant has a list of desired outcomes and a plan that sets out how those outcomes will be achieved. As an NDIS provider in Queensland, you will be fundamental to ensuring successful outcomes by delivering the support and service that make them possible. For this, you will be paid from the funding that NDIS provides.
The Benefits and Requirements to Become an NDIS Provider in QLD
Although an NDIS provider in Qld does not have to be registered, registration does give many benefits over being unregistered. These include:
- being able to access a much wider range of participants to offer support and services
- the ability to advertise as a registered provider, which gives greater credibility
- having access to various NDIS training tools and resources, and to obtain updates and information about system and process changes
- being part of a competitive marketplace rather than trying to contact participants as an outsider
- sourcing online systems and tools to manage bookings and process payments.
The old support system was fragmented, inefficient and under-funded with little choice for participants, often due to the block funding of particular providers. The new NDIS system is much fairer since funding goes directly to each participant and is based on their individual needs. Participants can, therefore, put the funding towards the areas of their greatest need, either choosing their own providers or packages of support or appointing an intermediary to do it on their behalf.Providers must be registered if they:
- deliver services and support to participants who use the NDIA to manage their plans
- provide specialist disability accommodation (SDA), develop behaviour support plans or use restrictive practices.

More About the NDIS Commission
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has been responsible for registering NDIS service providers in QLD since 1st July 2019. Prior to that, providers were registered with the NDIA and in some instances through HSQF. On 1 July 2019 their registration automatically transferred to the NDIS Commission on the stated date. However, they will need to renew with the NDIS Commission before the expiry date shown on their new registration certificate issued by the Commission in June and July 2019.
Any existing provider that is intending to add new services or support and has a pending application for these with the NDIA must advise the NDIS Commission of the changes since they are not transferred automatically. New providers, including those that had a pending application with the NDIA, will have to apply directly to the NDIS Commission.

If you are wondering how to become an NDIS provider in QLD, you may soon become overwhelmed by how complex and difficult registering with the NDIS Commission can be.
Becoming an NDIS provider in QLD can be broken down into five achievable steps. Though these steps may seem simple at first, each of them requires significant effort, with its own complexities and requirements.
At Provider+, we make every effort to ensure that registering as an NDIS provider in QLD is as easy and simple as possible.
STEP 1: The first step when considering how to become an NDIS registered provider in QLD is to create a new application on the NDIS Commission Application Portal. As part of the application process, you will need to provide information about your organisation, such as:
- Contact details
- Corporate structure
- Places of operation
- Key personnel
Once you have done this, you will also have to select which registration group you would like to apply for.
STEP 2: The next step in registering as an NDIS provider in QLD is to select an approved auditor. Upon completion of your application, you will receive an ‘initial scope of audit’ document. This document lets you know whether you have to complete a ‘verification’ or ‘certification’ audit, and outlines what your organisation needs to prove compliance with the NDIS Practice Standards.
STEP 3: The third step in becoming an NDIS provider in QLD is to undergo a quality audit. Your auditor will take into consideration the size, scope and services of your organisation during their assessment. When the audit is complete they will provide you with a report and discuss their findings with you.
STEP 4: Once the audit has been completed, the next step in becoming an NDIS provider in QLD is to have the NDIS Commission assess your application. The NDIS Commission will assess your organisation based on the findings of your audit as well as a suitability assessment of your key personnel.
STEP 5: Once the NDIS Commission has finished its assessment, they will notify you of the outcome. If your application to register as an NDIS provider in QLD has been successful, you will receive a certificate that will outline:
- Details of the services you have been registered to provide
- The period of your registration
- Your registration conditions
If your application has been unsuccessful, the NDIS Commission will notify you why, and allow you to request a review up to three months from the date of the decision.
