Federal Government spends more on the NDIS

As the National Disability Insurance Scheme continues to grow at a faster rate than expected, the forecast costs are now more than $40 billion over what was anticipated for the next three years.

These figures were disclosed by the government in the 2022-23 Budget handed down in Canberra this week. These figures indicate that the NDIS will overtake spending on defence in 2024-25, and will cost federal and state governments around $46 billion in 2025-26.

This week the government announced that it has budgeted $33.9 billion for the NDIS in 2022-23.

It was also announced that rapid antigen tests would be provided free of charge to NDIS Supported Living residents and workers. This is in addition to RATs being able to be purchased by NDIS participants through their NDIS plan. Also approximately 82% of NDIS participants are eligible for free rapid tests through the Concession Card Holder Scheme.
